Fonts for Middle English texts

The Middle English texts presented here require the fonts Imed, JuniusModern, Orm, Orm2 and Wingdings. If a character does not appear in the shape it is supposed to in the test table below, you will need to install the corresponding font on your computer. Wingdings is a standard Windows font; JuniusModern can be downloaded from Peter Baker's Old English at the University of Virginia web page.

Windows versions of Imed, Orm and Orm2 can be accessed here.

If you're working in one of the University's computer labs, do not attempt to install the fonts yourself, but contact the local Oracle. If all else fails, contact nils.johannesson@hf.ntnu.no.

Note for Macintosh users: due to deep-rooted differences in character coding between Windows and the Macintosh operating system, the Middle English words will look odd on a Mac even if you have the right fonts installed. Parallel pages coded for the Mac will be made available whenever possible: note, however, that at the moment we have no Mac version of the fonts Imed, Orm and Orm2.
